The Next Frontier of Narrative Influence.
Every generation inherits its understanding of the world from the sources it trusts. Today, that source is increasingly artificial intelligence.
Large language models are becoming where people first ask what happened, what it means, and why it matters. Their answers carry the weight of authority, and repeated across millions of conversations, they become the version of events a generation grows up with.
Yet no independent institution is recording how these systems present the foundations of the West, or how those accounts change over time.
The Archai Institute exists to create that record now, while a baseline can still be established.
Our Approach
The Archai Institute works like a public opinion research firm. Instead of surveying people, we study the answers leading AI systems give to the questions people actually ask.
For each Index, we:
Develop questions with subject-matter experts, drawn from how real people seek information.
Put the same questions to leading AI systems under standardized conditions.
Have independent scholars review the responses blind, without knowing which system wrote them.
Publish where AI systems align with expert understanding and where they fall short.
Because the process is repeatable, each Index can be run again over time, creating a lasting record of how these systems change.
We don't assign a single "bias score." We look at accuracy, completeness, framing, and whether a system acknowledges real scholarly disagreement.
